What full off-road demands

Going deep into remote country asks four things of a van: that it handles the corrugations, clears what sits underneath, keeps dust and water out, and carries its own power and water.

Get those four right and remote country opens up. It is the difference between a van that visits the outback and one that is built to stay out in it.

Handle the corrugations

Hour after hour of sustained impacts, fine dust and outback heat that work at the chassis, the joins and everything bolted to them.

Clear the obstacles

Ruts, rock steps, washouts and creek crossings that ask for real ground clearance and sensible approach and departure angles.

Off-grid capability

Solar, lithium batteries and serious water capacity that keep the van running for days at a time, well beyond the last powered site.

Weights your 4WD can live with

Remote tracks punish a van that maxes out the tow vehicle, so ATM and ball weight have to leave your 4WD real margin, fully loaded.

That is a demanding brief. It is exactly the one New Age is built to answer.

How New Age answers it

You've seen the terrain. Here is how we build for it.

Every full off-road New Age is engineered around the four things that keep you moving and self-sufficient out there: how it holds together over corrugations, how it clears what's underneath, how it keeps dust and water out, and how long it runs off the grid. Work down through them.

01 · Chassis & suspension

Independent coil suspension on a chassis built for the load

Twin-shock independent coil suspension lets each wheel work the ground on its own, so corrugations and washboard tracks stay under the van instead of coming up through it, on a chassis engineered for the load.

In plain terms: the van stays composed on the rough stuff, and the frame under it is built to keep taking it.

02 · Clearance & angles

Clearance and angles to clear what's under you

Generous ground clearance with sharp approach and departure angles lets the van follow your 4WD over ruts, rock steps and washouts without dragging the drawbar at the front or the frame at the rear.

In plain terms: where your tow vehicle can go, the van is built to follow.

03 · TIG-welded aluminium frame

A TIG-welded aluminium frame, strong with flex built in

The body is framed in TIG-welded aluminium: strong enough to take the hammering of a corrugated track, with enough give to work with the terrain instead of cracking against it, and available in a range of colours.

In plain terms: the frame is tough, flexes with the track, and the colour is your call.

04 · Off-grid power & water

Solar, battery and water for days between towns

Roof-mounted solar keeps a deep lithium battery bank topped up, paired with large fresh-water capacity, so you can camp well away from power and supplies for days at a time.

In plain terms: you can stop where you like and stay there, not chase the next powered site.

Off-grid & remote capability

Set up for thefar side of the map.

Full off-road touring comes down to staying out longer and travelling comfortably while you do. Work up an indicative nights-off-grid estimate, see the clearance and approach angles, and check which models suit your tow vehicle. All figures below are indicative starting points, not a spec sheet.

Behind the numbers

How we calculate your nights

Power

Solar in600 W × 5 sun hours × 75%
Daily draw1,400 Wh/day for 2 aboard
Battery bridges the gap3,402 Wh usable (315 Ah × 12 V × 90%)

Panels are derated 25% for heat, angle and dust. Usable battery is 90% of rated capacity. If solar covers the draw, power never runs out.

Water

Fresh water220 L ÷ 48 L a day
Grey tank110 L, fills at ~80% of use

Your shortest-lasting system sets the answer - the estimate is the lesser of the water and power limits. Modelled estimates, not measured performance: real results vary with climate, appliances, driving between camps and how the van is used. Confirm the specific build with your dealer.

All figures on this panel are indicative and provided for planning only. Nights off-grid is a transparent estimate based on the stated assumptions and will vary in the field. Clearance and approach/departure angles vary by model, build and load. ATM and tow tiers are indicative and must be checked against your specific tow vehicle. Quick answers

Full off-road,answered straight

The short versions of what this page covers, in one place - tow vehicles, clearance, days off-grid, sealing and remote warranty. Confirm pricing and specs with your dealer.

In practice, yes. Every model in the full off-road range is matched to a four-wheel drive tow vehicle. The Manta Ray Expedition and Desert Rose sit at Tier 2, suited to a capable 4WD, while the Road Owl Expedition is a Tier 3 van built for a heavier 4WD. Check the tow match panel for an indicative fit by vehicle class, then confirm each van's ATM against your vehicle's braked towing capacity, GVM, GCM and towball limits, and confirm loaded weights at a licensed weighbridge before you head off.

Semi off-road caravans are built for good gravel roads, formed dirt tracks and unpowered sites, while full off-road caravans are built to leave formed roads behind, for corrugations, sand, water crossings and long stretches off the grid. In the New Age range, Semi Off-Road is an upgrade pack on the on-road models, and the full off-road range on this page is purpose-built for remote touring, with a raised off-road chassis, heavier independent suspension, more underbody protection and off-grid power and water. If your travel is mostly sealed roads with the occasional gravel stretch, semi off-road may be enough, and to reach genuinely remote country you want full off-road. Talk your typical trips through with your dealer.

These vans are built for genuine clearance, with a raised chassis, off-road independent coil suspension and tucked-up underbody protection to keep the running gear off the terrain. See the clearance and angles panel for indicative figures for the range. Exact ground clearance and approach and departure angles still vary by model and by how the van is loaded, so confirm the figures for your chosen build with your dealer.

It depends on your water tanks, solar and battery, and how you use them. As a rough guide, a couple travelling carefully can stretch several days between top-ups, while running an air conditioner or a large fridge draws that down quickly. Use the nights off-grid worksheet on this page for an indicative estimate from as-built tank, solar and battery figures, then confirm the off-grid package on your chosen build with your dealer.

Sealing is a core part of the full off-road build, with measures such as dust-sealed doors and hatches, a sealed underbody, protected wiring and a pressurised interior designed to keep fine bulldust and water out on rough tracks. No caravan is waterproof at any depth, so treat water crossings with care, check the crossing on foot first where it is safe to do so, and follow the depth and driving guidance for your model.

New Age backs the range with a structured factory warranty, supported by a national dealer and service network so you can arrange servicing around your travels. Warranty terms, service intervals and what is covered while you are in remote areas can vary, so confirm the current warranty and servicing details, and your nearest service points, with your dealer before a big trip.

The full off-road range is engineered for the remote, corrugated and sandy touring those routes are known for. Whether a specific trip is suitable still depends on the model, how you have set the van up, current track and weather conditions, and your own experience and preparation. Talk your planned route through with your dealer, and always check current conditions and closures before you travel.

The two Expedition vans are the touring core: the Manta Ray Expedition is sized for couples and small families across five layouts from 15 to 20 feet, and the Road Owl Expedition is the larger family and Tier 3 option at 19 to 21 feet. The Desert Rose is the luxury van for two, finished for the remote outback. All three are lined up side by side in the range showcase above.

The full off-road range starts from $90,990 for the Manta Ray Expedition and runs to $142,740 for the luxury Desert Rose, excluding on-road costs. These are indicative starting prices that vary by layout and options, so confirm current pricing with your dealer.
