Wow, I loved these markets which are set up next to the water along the Esplanade of Airlie Beach – what a beautiful spot. The Airlie Beach Markets (Whitsunday Lions Airlie Beach Community Markets) are held every Saturday from 8 am until around noon – entry is free.
They are lively and colourful with lots happening during the morning – including live entertainment. There are plenty of stalls selling homemade products – artworks, handcrafts, locally made jewellery, clothing, souvenirs, glass blowing, fruit and vegetables – it took me ages to get around all the stalls! One of my purchases during the morning was a small wooden stingray made out of camphor laurel which has since been admired by many of our visitors.
The taller one also found lots to do, eating his way around the various food stalls which were offering a good range of local delicacies from mango sorbet, Asian delights, pies and the ‘world’s best’ sausage rolls (a self-proclaimed award, it seemed)!
Airlie Beach has a lot to offer, especially during the winter months! The weather is ideal, tropical islands are close and the locals are very friendly. We would definitely go back to these markets next time we visit Airlie Beach.
